Mount Cook’s region is one of my favorite in New Zealand. I was so surprised by the colors of those two lakes (Lake Pukaki and Lake Tekapo) that I had a real crush for them.
You could spent a whole day there and not see all that Lake Pukaki or Lake Tekapo are about. Their color changes according to the weather, going from regular blue to this majestic and intense turquoise.
We also saw it red as the sun was going down and the mountains around turned in fire. That was one of the most spectacular sunset I have seen in New Zealand (and I saw quite a few!)
If you were still wondering wether or not stop there on your way from Queenstown to Christchurch, I would advise you to do so. For me it is one of the ABSOLUTE must-do’s in your road trip around New Zealand.
Oh and for what it’s worth, if you stop at Lake Pukaki, you can taste a really good Salmon Sashimi (it’s like $10 for the box but so worth it!). It is really tasty. I am not sure where the Salmon is from but… really good.
