Enoshima: Day trip from Tokyo
If I have to describe Enoshima to my friends, there is only one thing that comes to my mind: Le Mont-Saint Michel.
For those who don’t know the Mont Saint Michel, it is a monastery / castle located in Normandy that is on an Island. Or almost an Island because there is a bridge now that goes there. Before it was only sand.
Why am I talking about that? Well, Enoshima is kind of in the same situation. It is on an almost island and you can access it by a bridge. It is very very cute.
Lots of little streets that goes all the way up to the top where there is a tower and a point of view on the bay and a shrine (of course). You can either walk up, or there is also electrical stairs (of some kind) for the disabled and those who don’t want to walk up.
It is a long walk up but it is walkable (just bring a bottle of water!). The island is not really big (About 4km round) and contains a loot of cats and beaches.
One very strange thing about this place is all the hawks that are around. They fly very low and are very big. Apparently they can grab the food you have in your hands so be careful!
One fun things to do going to Enoshima or coming back to Kamakura is to take the Monorail train. Ask specifically for it because otherwise you will take the simple tram. The Monorail train is suspended in the air, it is really fun to fly over the cars!
All in all, Kamakura and Enoshima are a really nice escapade from Tokyo for a day or two. What did you think? Have you been there at the same time as Kamakura?
