I love coffee shops & workspaces.
As I am currently a freelancer, I work from home, but often, home feels lonely. That is why I started working in coffee shops when I was in Montreal last year (2014). As I didn’t know many people there, I wanted to get out of my house. More over, my roommate often went to some of them so he made me discover the coffee shop way of working. Even if you are on your own, at least you go out, talk to the Barista, maybe to one or two other people inside the shop. They offer free Internet in most places and I think, it makes you focus more on your work than if you were at home.
It’s a pretty good alternative to co-working spaces that are extending in France (at least). What I don’t like about co-working spaces, is that it doesn’t have real personality. They aim for cheap decoration like Ikea (I love Ikea but be realistic, it makes every flat / house look the same). What I love about coffee shops it is the atmosphere, the smell of coffee, the sound the grinder makes when the barista makes a new brewage.
Back in France, I realized soon enough that in my home town, there is only one coffee shop that makes me want to go there work but it is quite small, so it is not peaceful enough to work there. You are kind of in the middle of the way. I had to resigned and work from home. And it really feels lonely sometimes and it is hard to put myself at work everyday.
I want to develop coffee shops in the area but we will see that later!
For now, I opened this page to make you discover coffee shops around the world. Maybe you are stuck like me in a small town and you are looking for a place like that without knowing it exists. I love testing places so if you have any advice for me, I’ll try to go!
I will also talk about other working spaces I love like some libraries. Except the side quieter and without coffee, they might be beautiful inside and worth seeing.
Finally, I will post stuff about coffee that I find interesting.
